Project Brief: To install a Blu-ray Home cinema with seating into a converted stable block with games consoles and infra-red

                         control to consealed equipment.

Background

Our client had purchased a large property and wished to turn the existing stables into a home cinema which could be used
both for family fun and for the children to enjoy with their friends.  As well as the Blu-ray cinema our client wanted to have a

TV tuner for watching sport and various games consoles. Seating was required for up to 9 people and we were working in

tandem with an interior designer and builders, electricians and decorators in order to meet an important deadline for completion.

The solution

The first job was to get the cabling correctly installed which meant re-routing some cabling that had been installed by another

company and upgrading other cables to a high specification. The next part of the project was to liaise with the clients' builder

in order to get a stud wall built at the front of the room on which we would hang a fixed screen and behind which we would install

all of the AV equipment.  Further building work was required in order to create a tiered plinth onto which we would install 3 sets

of 3 cinema seats.  The design of the room was therefore carried out by Ugot with great success as can be seen above.

Once the building work was complete we turned our attention both to the installation of the AV system and to the decor and interior

design working closely with  the interior designer and decorator.  Once the decorating was complete we began the process of

installing the  system outlined opposite. The speakers changed considerably from the original specification in order to accommodate

the customers design requirements.

The hardware

We chose a 2.4m, Hi-definition, fixed projection screen by Draper coupled with the excellent Epson TW4400 Blu-ray projector
which was ceiling mounted in order to maximise the space available.

The drive for the system was a Marantz SR5005 offering great audio detail with intuitive control.

The Blu-ray player is the superb Marantz BD7004 which gave a great image and excellent depth of colour.

The 3 front speakers were in-wall Sonance THX LCR speakers offering a great sound and discrete installation

which we further enhanced by having them painted the same colour as the suede wall-paper rendering them

almost invisible.

The satellite speakers were originally to be floor standing, however once we had specified the stud wall and

in wall speakers at the front it seemed sensible to follow the minimalist design for the rear speakers
We chose Audica CX speakers which sound superb and fit perfectly with the scheme and design of the

room.

The AV receiver, blu-ray player etc are housed in a middle atlantic Slim 5 rack with custom vented shelves

to ensure both a snug fit for the hardware and good ventillation.  A locking rear access panel and glass front

door complete the rack.

The TV solution was a Humax HD Freeview receiver offering over 50 channels when the clients aren't watching

a movie.

Also integrated into the solution is a Wii and a Playstation 3 offering lots of gaming excitement for the whole family.

Control of the Wii is affected by attaching the Wii bar to the bottom of the projection screen and routing the cable

through the stud wall and into the Wii on the rack.  The Playstation has wireless controllers which work perfectly

in this situation.

Overall control is achieved with a Nevo Q50 remote control which is programmed to make using the cinema room

as simple as possible.  The client simply has 4 buttons, one for each activity including; "Watch movie", "Play Wii",

Watch TV and Playstation.  Pressing any of these buttons starts up the entire system, it really couldn't be easier.
