Project brief: To design and install a high quality home cinema into the clients' double garage including support with the room renovations.

Client: A private individual.
Background: We were initially approached by a local Hi-Fi shop as they didn't feel that they could do the project justice. We met with the client and quickly understood what he was trying to achieve. We were able to offer advice on how the garages should be turned into a room, how the acoustics could be improved and also what lighting and Cinema system would best suit both the clients desires and their room. Our client also wanted to play Xbox and Playstation games in the cinema, to have a data network and to be able to have his Sky HD box in the cinema but with the channels from the same Sky box also available in the Living room at the other end of the property with seemless control through his Sky remote.
The Solution: This was effectively a blank canvas and so we were able to specify and agree the perfect solution for our client.
Projector and screen
We chose a 2.4m, Hi-definition, fixed projection screen by Draper coupled with the latest Sony VPL-VW85 Blu-ray projector which was ceiling mounted in order to maximise the space available. The crisp colour and beautiful detail, coupled with the Sony's superb motion technology make this a visual delight.
Blu-ray player and AV receiver
The drive for the system comes in the form of a Denon AVR-3310 offering outstanding audio detail with intuitive control. The Blu-ray player is the superb Denon DVD-2500T offering mind blowing clarity.
Speaker Solution
Mordaunt-Short Mezzo's were chosen both for their superb sound quality and outstanding looks. Finished in Walnut the Mezzo 8's made a superb front pair with a Mezzo 5 as the centre speaker. Mezzo 2's are the superb satellites and the Mezzo 9 Sub-woofer adds the final touch.
Rack solution
Obviously with such a beautiful system and room we were compelled to house the hardware in a suitable manner and so we specified a 27u slim 5 rack from Middle Atlantic with vented shelves for the AV equipment as well as the clients' xBox, Playstation 3, Sky HD box and Media Centre PC. The rack was completed with top and sides in matching walnut and a smoked glass door with a lock just in case the children wanted to push any buttons !
Lighting
The lighting was designed with 3 circuits and 4 scenes allowing for a realistic cinema lighting experience. All lights are GU10 downlighters providing lighting to controlled areas of the room at levels pre-set to the customers' requirements.
Control
A Nevo S70 offers control of the complete system including the lighting and we have programmed the remote to ensure that the cinema is both simple to use and very impressive. Just pressing "DVD" on the Nevo turns on the projector, the AV receiver and the DVD player and prepares them to play. The lights then dim as everyone settles into their seats. The movie then plays and the room is emersed in the film. Should anyone need a break (for ice cream or popcorn) then a press of the pause button halts the movie and returns the lights to a safe level for people to walk about, pressing play again dims the lights and re-starts the movie. A true cinema experience.
